Hello!
I'm new here and reaching out to ask for your guidance as I get started. I've been experimenting with the Google Cloud free trial, specifically the Cloud Translation Basic and Advanced editions. My aim is to translate an Excel document into English, and I could use your expertise.
This Excel document comprises a single column with multiple lines. Each line contains a brief activity description in either Hindi, English, or a mix of both, which I assume is Hinglish. I've successfully used Cloud Translation with Devanagari text in my Excel document. For instance, "पूर्व माध्यमिक विद्यालय आदिलपुर में माॅडल शौचालय निर्माण कार्य" could be translated accurately.
However, I've encountered challenges with phrases written in the Roman script (Romanization or transliteration of Hindi words), like "parsasnik mad," which could not be translated accurately. Interestingly, when I checked this on Google Translate, it suggested a misspelling and recommended "prashasnik mad," meaning "administrative means." Another example is "pv kayakalp," which also couldn't be translated. Google Translate indicated that the text is in Marathi but couldn't provide a translation.
This has left me puzzled, wondering why the Google Cloud API struggles with these Romanized phrases in my Excel document. Could it be due to spelling errors, or perhaps the API can't identify the language?
In summary, my question is: Does Google Cloud (Cloud Translation) support transliteration, and what steps should I take to correctly use this service? Thank you!
