Confused over embedding models

I recently started using google AI services for a RAG application I'm working on. Found embedding-001 on which is listed here. But in google cloud website Vertex AI has another set of embedding models listed there. Is embedding-001 is related to the Gecko family of embedding models listed in Vertex AI or are these entirely different models. In (PII Removed by Staff) i can see gecko embedding models are listed, but couldn't find embedding-001

Hello @Dinith_Kumudika ,

The embedding-001 model is not available in Vertex AI. On the other hand, based on the documentation, only the model text-embedding-004 has the corresponding model in Vertex AI which is text-embedding-preview-0409.

Please note that text-embedding-preview-0409 is in Preview and has the following limitations:

  • Don't use these Preview models on mission critical or production systems.
  • These models are available in us-central1 only.
  • Batch predictions are not supported.
  • Customization is not supported.
