Document AI - Contract Parser

Hey guys,

Anyone know the story behind the deprecation of the Contract Parser, a specialized Document AI parser that used to be available and briefly mentioned in Holt Skinner's youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHNPiCTTm4U?  Hoping there might be a way to get access to it, even if it's chock full of issues.  I'm looking to parse Option Contracts/Lease documents in the renewable energy space, and this parser looks quite promising.

Hi @hansker,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

There is no longer a dedicated "Contract Parser" product within Google Document AI as a standalone, readily available offering. Previous versions, even if briefly mentioned in videos or older documentation, are likely deprecated and no longer supported. The deprecation could stem from various factors, such as performance issues, low usage, the introduction of better models, or changes in Google’s product strategy.

However, here are some alternative approaches you could explore for parsing Option Contracts/Lease documents in the renewable energy space:

  1. Document AI Form Parser: While not specifically designed for contracts, Document AI Form Parser can extract key-value pairs, tables, and other structured data from various document types. You might be able to adapt it to your needs with some customization.
  2. Custom Model Training: You could train a custom machine learning model using a platform like Google AI Platform or Vertex AI. This would require a labeled dataset of contracts and would involve more technical expertise.

You may keep an eye on the release notes for any latest updates or new features related to Document AI.
