No preinstalled kernels in Vertex AI Workbench

I am following this tutorial:

(17) Vertex AI Workbench instances notebooks - YouTube

When I get to the point of opening the JupyterLab of the new instance I don't have any kernels available.

My Launcher simply has a Text File, Console and a Markdown available as options.

If I open a new notebook from File>New > Notebook no kernels are available to run it.

I am also facing this issue all of a sudden. I found out that picking an older container version (in my case, M121) rather than the current version (M124) fixes the problem, which might be an indication that this is a GCP bug.

I got the same issue when creating new instances.

Tentative workaround is to uncheck "Enable Dataproc Serverless Interactive Sessions" when creating an instance.

Hi just tried the following solutions and none of them works

1) unckeck "Enable Dataproc Serverless Interactive Sessions"

2) clean cookies

3) switch machine types

4) check and uncheck "idle" and "access to root" options
