Hello,
We are planning to use the Gemini API via Vertex AI and have a question about the age-restriction requirements noted here:
https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms
Do the same age restrictions apply when the Gemini API is invoked through Vertex AI?
To confirm that users are 18 years of age or older, is it acceptable to rely on the date of birth provided by the user during registration?
Thank you for your clarification.
Best regards,
Hi @masachika ,
Yes, the age restrictions in the Gemini API Terms apply regardless of how the API is accessed — including via Vertex AI.
To verify users are 18 or older, using a declared date of birth at registration is generally acceptable, as long as it’s clearly stated in your terms and you enforce appropriate checks.
For higher-risk use cases, consider adding additional verification measures.
Hi @a_aleinikov
Thank you for the quick reply!
Got it— we’ll implement the age gate based on users’ date of birth as you suggested, and make sure it’s clearly covered in our terms. If our use case expands, we’ll look at adding stronger verification.
Thanks again for the guidance!
