Using Claude on Vertex for GDPR safe use

I am looking to use Anthropic Claude on Vertex AI for a european product. My problem is that google forwards to the Anthropic privacy policy. <URL removed by staff>

one problem I see is that Anthropic gets a copy of the data and may use the data to train models.

To de-identify personal data and train our AI models
  • Inputs and Outputs
  • Feedback
  • Technical Information
  • Legitimate interests
It is our legitimate interest to utilize de-identified data to improve our AI models. This enables us to provide more accurate and helpful services over time based on real-world usage.

is it possible to set up a separate instance on vertex to avoid this and have a gdpr safe deployment?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Google Cloud Community.

You're right, using Anthropic Claude on Vertex AI for a European product with GDPR compliance can be challenging due to Anthropic's data privacy policy.
The concern lies in Anthropic's privacy policy, which states they might receive a copy of the data used with their model and potentially use it for further training. This raises GDPR compliance issues if your product targets European users.

Unfortunately, creating a separate instance on Vertex AI won't address the data privacy concerns.Anthropic Claude works as a pre-trained model integrated with Vertex AI. When you use Claude, your data interacts with Anthropic's servers, regardless of the Vertex AI instance location.

I think your answer here does not align with the answers i get when asking Anthropic directly. They say that we get our own separate instance and no data sent to Anthropic if we use sonnet 3.5 with vertex ai. That is the default behaviour. I find the communication about the privacy aspects deeply troubling. Can somebody tell me what is the real vetted enterprise answer for using sonnet 3.5 ?
