Vertex Workbench Instance SSH - Unable to login as a non-OSLogin user

Hi,

I'm currently assessing Vertex AI User-managed Notebooks vs. the new Vertex AI Workbench Instances.

In contrary to the existing User-managed offering, it seems that new Workbench instances have OSLogin enabled by default, which forces it to login as the OSLogin user when SSHing in. Specifying a custom user won't work as long as long as OSLogin is enabled (i.e. its overriden).

However, turning off OSLogin via the underlying Compute Engine instance. also doesn't do the trick - as you are then unable to SSH in again (even when you have all respective permissions set, i.e. NotebookAdmin etc etc). One way or another the SSH key doesn't get propagated to the metadata of the underlying Compute Engine instance.

Would anyone have an idea how to go about this?

Many thanks in advance,

Mike
