Hi @MatthewWatson26,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

If you're using Vertex AI Notebooks in Google Cloud and encountering the error message "You tried to access a service that isn't available for your account," it could be related to a few different things within the Google Cloud environment.

Here are some possible causes and solutions:

  1. Vertex AI API Not Enabled: If the Vertex AI API is not enabled for your Google Cloud project, go to the Google Cloud Console, navigate to "APIs & Services" in your project, search for "Vertex AI API," and ensure it is enabled.
  2. Insufficient Permissions for Service Account: If the service account associated with your Vertex AI Notebook lacks necessary permissions, make sure it has the "Vertex AI User" role or a custom role with the required permissions. If not, assign the correct role or create a custom one to enable the required access.
  3. Network Restrictions: If your notebook instance cannot access Vertex AI services, check your firewall settings to ensure outbound traffic to the Vertex AI service endpoints is allowed. Also, verify that any VPN or proxy you're using is properly configured and not blocking access.
  4. Incompatible Instance Type: Ensure that your notebook instance is using a compatible type, such as "Standard" or "Custom," with sufficient resources to support the necessary tasks.
  5. Recent Configuration Changes: Review any recent changes to your project, such as updates to IAM roles or network settings, as they may have unintentionally affected your instance's access.
  6. Possible Service Outage: Although rare, a temporary service disruption could be the cause. Check the Google Cloud Status Dashboard for updates or refer to this document for troubleshooting steps.

In addition, for more insight into using Notebooks for Machine Learning you can check out this video and If the issue persists, review your logs for error messages or contact Google Cloud Support for further assistance.

I hope the above information is helpful.
