Hi,
I am in the process of reviewing the Forrester report on economic benefits of Google Anthos. The "Analysis Of Costs" section of this report assumes "a monthly cost of $10,000 per 100 vCPUs.", a figure which differs a lot from the current pricing. Unless I am misreading the pricing document, 100 vCPUs for on-prem option would cost $1,800/mo. Same amount of vCPUs for cloud option costs even less - $600/mo. I would appreciate some clarity here, as for my client the cost of Anthos is the critical decision-making point.
Thanks in advance,
Oleksii
I'm not 100% sure on the Anthos pricing model, but at the very least I know you're missing something. The pricing that you linked is (I believe) the cost for management.
Anthos is just a hybrid/multi-cloud Kubernetes management platform. You still have to pay for the various Kubernetes clusters. The nodes are just VMs and a 4vCPU VM is about $110/mo. Multiply that by 25x and you get $2750/mo. and that's just the nodes. Then there's the managed Kubernetes control plane that you have to pay for (and that varies because you're paying per cluster, so do you have 1 cluster with 100vCPUs worth of nodes or 5 cluster with 20vCPUs worth of nodes each?) What about storage? Network egress? Load balancers? To me, 10k still seems a bit high if we're talking about *just* Anthos + Kubernetes, but if you factor in everything else that is probably needed you're easily looking at 6k+ depending on your setup and region.
Hey! Thanks for the prompt reply! Anthos costs are billed as respective SKUs and these SKUs are separate from the compute and storage SKUs you've mentioned: VMs, storage etc. That's how I interpreted the pricing document wording: "Anthos on Google Cloud pricing does not include charges for Google Cloud resources such as Compute Engine, Cloud Load Balancing, and Cloud Storage."
You may be right in that the Forrester has put all sorts of additional costs into that "10k/100vCPUs" figure, but if they really did so, they've made my life harder, because I have to explain my client where's the pure Anthos cost are where's the cost of underlying infra according to Forrester.
Best regards
