Unable to export smartdocs from Devportal ( Drupal )

Upon attempting to export smartdocs from devportal, we encounter the following error on the UI "This site can't be reached". Issue is seen across all API models and not specific to one. Have restarted httpd service and cleared cached but that has not helped. Issue seen on OPDK version 4.16.05.01

After enabling debug logs (Configuration -> Devportal and click on the "DEBUG" option under logging threshold.), the issue was narrowed down to write permissions on sites/default/files/wadls_export folder to user apache.
