I have a URL column that I want the Detail View to show and allow a user to open in a browser. Its in the list and all is working correctly. That user shouldn't be able to edit the URL so in my list for the form I have removed that column. It still shows up when I select the Form View and is editable.
So it appears that if the column is in the included in the view at all, it has to be in the form. Is there a way around this?
Sounds like you're looking at a different form view than the one you edited. Below the emulator there should be a blue "view" link you can use to make sure you're editing the right view.
If your URL doesn't change then you can use a SHOW type column and add the URL. Then you don't have to remove it at all and you don't have it writing to the database table.
If your URL needs to be edited by some users and not others, then I'd just change the fields "Editable?" properties to be that of only the people you want to change it.
That means you won't have different view aspects getting in the way like it is here.
That is what I am doing as a temporary solution, guess its gonna end up being permanent... Adding it or removing it from the Form View doesn't have any affect. If its listed in the Detail View, it shows in the Form.
There is still a difference in how it's displayed between the Browser and Mobile Views though. Not sure if this is by design.
Desktop View: Clickable and opens up in default browser.
Mobile: Editable but blocked by EditIf expression.
I think as per what Marc said above, you will have to show us some more information about what you are doing with your views and setup, because what you are saying is not how it works. It will just be that there is a different form.
I think to get the best help, you should provide details around what your field setup is for your URL, whether you want it to be modifiable ever and your views.
From what I understand you are wanting to achieve, all the options are there for it to work, it's just getting a better understanding of how all the options available to you hang together, rather than a limitation of the system.
I have encountered another instance where even when the columns are not listed in the form view they are there when viewed in a browser. Not there in the mobile view. I don't know how to explain it any other way. I am 99% sure that I am looking at the right views. I have looked at the LINKTOVIEWs and they all match up.
I have the previously mentioned URL field that I needs to be editable by like two users. The reset only need to be able to view it. What I recently encountered has to do with fields that consist of statues that I need most users to be able to view but not edit unless its their specific stage in the process.
I almost want to do a screen share or something so you can see what I see. Lots of facets to the app and maybe I am just totally missing something. I'm east coast, US if anyone is interested 7:30-4:00. ๐ค
Make sure you do a Ctrl-F5 refresh on the browser app to ensure that you're not looking at an old cached version.
Yeah that bit me early on... Definitely aware of that quirk. I have rebooted and cleared browsing data just a a check. Issue persists.
