How to maintain correct sequential order in a referenced list when adding new records

I am trying to maintain a numerical order in a referenced list when adding new records in my AppSheet app. The order should update automatically and keep the correct sequence (for example, 1, 2, 3, 4) for each reference. However, when adding new records, the order is saved randomly (for example, 2, 4, 1, 3). How can I ensure that the records in the referenced list are saved in the correct order, and that the numbering is maintained when new entries are added?
