August 26th is Women's Equality Day, a day celebrated in the United States to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote on the basis of sex.

On August 26th, 103 years ago, women were granted the right to vote. The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. While it is a time to celebrate, it is important to remember that even though the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote, not all women had the ability or access to vote. The fight for equal rights and representation is not over. We are committed to doing the work now and in the future to make sure that equality is a reality for all women.

We are honoring this day by remembering those who have fought and continue to fight for the voting rights of all people. While this day is officially celebrated in the U.S., we’re taking this time to celebrate all women globally. Women’s Equality Day is an important moment to recognize the powerful women and movements that have paved the way for us while continuing to work to break barriers for the next generation.

This year we asked members of the Google Cloud Community what Women’s Equality Day means to them. Tune in below to hear what the community had to say…
