Feature Request for Google Drive: User Quota Management

Dear Google Drive Team,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Mozzamol Hossen Noyon, and I have been working in the education sector for the past seven years, specifically in the IT department. My responsibilities have included managing core routers, switches, Active Directory domains, and file servers.

I would like to bring to your attention an important feature that could significantly enhance user experience on Google Drive. In our organization, we manage user access to our Microsoft file server by implementing storage quotas. This ensures that users do not exceed their allocated storage, which is crucial given the limitations set by our school authorities.

Currently, when we purchased 200 GB of Google Drive for our school, I found it challenging to manage storage quotas for our employees. I searched extensively for a solution within Google Drive, but unfortunately, I could not find any system that allows for similar quota management as seen in Windows file servers.

I kindly request that your app development team consider implementing a quota management feature in Google Drive. This would greatly benefit countless users worldwide, ensuring more efficient use of storage resources.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best regards,
Mozzamol Hossen Noyon

Itโ€™s possible to manage quotas by way of either groups or OUs. See https://support.google.com/a/answer/12002975 for all the details. We use the groups-based method here at the University of California, Berkeley.

If you already have the groups you want to use set up in an LDAP server (like Active Directory), you can use Googleโ€™s cloud-based Directory Sync service to sync those groups over into Workspace. See https://support.google.com/a/topic/10343447

If you need more control/options for the sync, you can use the more advanced Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS) tool. See https://support.google.com/a/topic/2679497

Both tools are directly from Google, and both are free.

Hope that helps,

Ian
