So this morning I find a notification that a phone I do not recognize has tried to change my log in for my Google account. I dig deeper cause I have had a stalker and checked out the activity before I changed the password and made necessary security changes. But what came up was some stuff about a project number and it has led me here. I don't even know what this is. Can someone please help me.
Hello @2ah ,Welcome on Google Cloud Community.
Projects at Google Cloud are sort of boxes for your resources. Each project contains:
- project name
- project ID
- project number
When you are creating projects, you can pick project name. You can also change project name after creation. What you can't do is change projectID AND project number. You can't also pick those two ( they are generated randomly ). Those two are immutable, and once created, cannot be changed.

Hi, @2ah.
For account security, try using a longer password that includes a combination of letters, digits and symbols. Additionally, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Gmail account.
Could you please confirm if your Google account is linked to any Google Cloud account? If not, review your Google account to see where it is linked. If yes, the project ID you received in the email is the GCP project ID. It’s a unique identifier under which all your Google Cloud resources are located.
