A little context.. Personal domain previously setup w/ gmail that I've only used for email/docs up to this point. I decided to give GCP a try to see how it compared to AWS.
Step 5 "Hierarchy & access" has the error below which is telling me to create a group with the same name as my email address(redacted part) so I can assign the necessary roles to it. Since it won't let me create a group with the same name as an existing user, I'm stuck and really don't see a path forward. I tried assigning the roles directly to my user but that doesn't change me from being stuck in the setup wizard. Why does it think a user should be created as a group if it won't let you do that very thing?
You can also see in the Step 3 Screenshot The first redacted line where it says "missing group" is my email as well. Also, is there a way to just wipe this and start fresh? That was going to be the last thing I tried or back to AWS it is.
Thanks.
Hi @danmia,
Welcome to the Google Cloud Community!
Just a heads up, the Google Cloud Setup you’re following is the Organization resource setup wizard and is generally targeted for enterprises who are planning to move their current cloud workloads to Google Cloud. If you’re interested in setting up an organization on Google Cloud, see Creating and managing organization resources.
If you have a Google Account, you should already have access to Google Cloud natively. However, if you want to use Google Cloud with an organization, you need to create either a Google Workspace or Cloud Identity account and associate your domain with Google Cloud.
For your question about groups, the setup wizard is expecting to grant access to a Google Group from an organization (who has completed setting up their org hierarchy or migration process) instead of an individual user, so it returns an error. See Best practices for using IAM roles and permissions with Folders for more information.
If you want to restart the Setup process, simply click on Step 1: Organization and configure the details again as needed or try this link.
