Hey all! I know this may be a simple/silly question but, I am on a journey to jump-start my career in cloud computing. I've just completed and passed my Associate Google Cloud Engineer Certification. I know that this is just the beginning of the certifications that I should acquire and I am working on some test projects to touch up on my skills and add to my portfolio. I was just wondering what are some example entry-level jobs/roles that I should look for? I would love to start gaining job experience but, I am not sure from what jobs that I should apply for. ANY advice would be perfect. Thanks a lot!
Hi @MrBanks518 👋 My name is Willie and I'm on the Community team here at Google. Congrats on passing the Associate Google Cloud Engineer Certification! I'm not an Engineer, so I can't help answering your question on jobs, but I wanted to reach out and say great job! I know those certifications take a lot of time and dedication. Good luck on your job search!
I really appreciate it! It wasn't easy but it was definitely fulfilling. Now, just to find a way to get paid for all my hard work. Haha lol
How's it going!
Great question! I'm somewhat on a similar path. I'm an entrepreneur with my own startup; however, within my company, I've been working as a cloud architect/engineer for about 3 years now. I've been contemplating taking on an outside role as a Cloud Engineer and asked myself the same questions.
As you start your journey, I would recommend immediately exploring Cloud Engineer roles. If you come across positions that mention DevOps, don't be afraid to look through the job descriptions and assess your skillset and interests. DevOps roles can sometimes overlap with Cloud Engineer roles and may be a good option as well. Cloud Customer Engineer (post-sales) roles can also be an option, depending on your interests.
I hope that helps!
This helped more than you know. I really appreciate you telling your testimony and for advice on the roles to go after. Thanks a lot!
