Emmanuel Katto Uganda : How can I start learning data analytics from scratch?

Hello everyone,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Emmanuel Katto from Uganda, and I'm based in Uganda. I'm eager to begin my journey in data analytics but starting from scratch.

Could you please share your recommendations on how to get started with learning data analytics? Specifically, I'm looking for:

  • Beginner-friendly resources such as online courses, books, or tutorials.
  • Essential skills and concepts I should prioritize learning first.
  • Any practical tips or learning strategies that have helped you or others in mastering data analytics.

Your insights and guidance would be immensely valuable to me as I embark on this learning path.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Regards

Emmanuel Katto Uganda

Hello Emmanuel,

Thank you for contacting Google Cloud Community.

I would suggest you to learn Python along with SQL. Once you get an overview of the both then you can try your hands on Data Structures. Here are some study material related to them:

"Python for Everybody Specialization" (University of Michigan): Offers a gentle introduction to Python programming.
"Data Science for Business" by Foster Provost and Tom Fawcett: Provides a broad overview of data analysis concepts and applications.

You can try website[1] and [2] for learning Python and SQL respectively. If you are looking for Google Course on Python you can click on[3].

Remember the following points in your Data Analytics journey:

  1. Don't try to learn everything at once. Build a strong foundation in programming, statistics, and data wrangling before moving on to more advanced topics.
  2. Theory is important, but data analytics is a practical field. Find resources with plenty of coding exercises and practice projects to apply your knowledge.
  3. When you get stuck, don't hesitate to seek help from online communities, forums, or mentors. There's a supportive data analytics community willing to answer your questions.
  4. Data analytics is a constantly evolving field. Be curious about new tools, techniques, and industry trends. Keep learning and expanding your knowledge base.
