We’ve been using Looker Studio connected to BigQuery via Funnel for years with no issues. Starting April 9, 2025, we began receiving this error:
"Quota exceeded: Your project exceeded quota for free query bytes scanned."
Nothing has changed in our Looker dashboard, team access, or data volume. Jobs in BigQuery (visible via Jobs Explorer) show frequent failed interactive queries, triggered by Looker Studio under my user account — many with 0 bytes processed. This behavior suddenly caused us to hit our free-tier quota.

We’re wondering:
Has there been a change to free-tier quota enforcement or how Looker Studio queries are counted?
Is this a known issue affecting others since April 9?
What’s the recommended workaround for now (besides Extract Data)?
