When will PostgreSQL 17 be available on Google Cloud?

Hello,

PostgreSQL 17 was released on September 26, 2024, bringing significant performance improvements and new features:

  • Enhanced performance and scalability, including up to 20x reduced memory usage for vacuum processes and 2x better write throughput for high concurrency workloads.
  • New SQL/JSON features like the JSON_TABLE command for improved JSON data handling.
  • Logical replication enhancements that simplify high availability setups and major version upgrades.

I'm eager to utilize these benefits in my Google Cloud PostgreSQL instances. Could you please let me know when Google plans to support PostgreSQL 17?

Thank you!

Hi @Ernest

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

Thanks for sharing the information and features of PostgreSQL 17. As of now, there is no official release date yet for PostgreSQL 17 support in Google Cloud SQL. But, based on the support date for PostgreSQL 16 and pattern, it will probably be by the end of the second quarter of 2025.

You may check this official Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL release notes for any updates.

I hope the above information is helpful.

Our company is also very eager to upgrade to Postgres 17! I added a comment under the relevant Issue on Google's Issue Tracker here: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/372252499. Might be helpful for raising priority with the internal team.

Cloud SQL now supports PostgreSQL 17 and it is generally available to all customers and ready for production use.
