File Deletion and Shutting Down Project

Hi there,

I would like to confirm that when shutting down projects on Google Cloud via IAM, that any documents created by the service account will also be deleted/inaccessible?

I have already read the Documentation and Help regarding shutting down projects, and understand that there is a 30 day time frame for a complete deletion of the project, but I need to understand the scope of the deletion.

Cheers

John

Hello @nicalex  ,Welcome on Google Cloud Community.

Yes. If those documents are being stored for example on GCS or GCE VM disk, once project has been marked for deletion, those services and their data will be deleted after 30-day period. However, if you have data on bucket, you shutted down project and you reverted your deletion ( before soft-deletion period) your data should be accessible without any issues. Moving project into deletion state in fact disabling billing account associated with that project, so this is the reason why in example GCE VM or Cloud SQL would be shutted off ( and data associated with those services like SSD local disk or SQL transactions ). Unfortunately I didn't found exact scope list services which will be disabled after transition project to deletion
