Hi everyone,
I am trying to set up GTM server-side tracking for one of my clients. I have done this several times before with no issues and I understand how the process works.
As one of the final steps for setting up a subdomain, Google requires you to add several DNS records to your domain (four A and four AAAA). My client has his domain hosted with Shopify, which for some reason forbids the adding of multiple A/AAAA records wit the same name, which is required. I have not had this issue with any other domain providers and was wondering if anyone could suggest any possible solutions since I cannot proceed with the setup otherwise.
Thanks!
Hi @Aharon ,
To better answer your question, it would be very helpful if you will add details to it. Can you share the following:
1. Error message obtained when you tried adding multiple A and AAAA records.
2. Were you following any documentations or guides when you set it up?
Hi @Marvin_Lucero,
Thank you for your response.
1. When I tried to add a second A record using the same name as an existing A record (but a different IPv4 address), the error message read: "Name must be unique for non MX records). When I tried to add the second record using the @ symbol rather than the name, a similar message was thrown which I do not have access to currently.
2. Yes, I was following several articles and videos detailing this process. I had also previously done this setup for a different account that was not through Shopify domains and did not have any issues.
Shopify support have also confirmed that what I am attempting is not possible through Shopify domains which is why I wanted to see if Google had any workarounds, as this would affect all users trying to set up server-side tracking who use a Shopify-hosted domain.
Hi @Aharon ,
It seems that the error message that you've mentioned "Name must be unique for non MX records" was not showing when I tried to replicate it.
If you are hosting using Google Domains, multiple A records can only be configured for one domain name. You can follow check this guide on how to manage your records.
