This request proposes enhancements to Looker's API and UI Search functionality to improve access to dimensions and measures, enabling users to find data without knowing specific explorers or models.

Current Challenges:
Users must currently specify the explorer or model they are searching within, which can be inefficient for those unfamiliar with the LookML models.
Feature Request for Google Looker: Enhanced Search Functionality

Overview:
This request proposes enhancements to Looker's search functionality to improve access to dimensions and measures across models and explorers, enabling users to find data without knowing specific explorers or models.

Current Challenges:
Users must currently specify the explorer or model they are searching within, which can be inefficient for those unfamiliar with the LookML models.

Proposed Solutions:

Option 1: Enhance search_content API Endpoint

• Endpoint: API explorer/4.0/methods/Content/search_content
• Enhancement: Update the endpoint to include dimensions and measures in search results, broadening the scope of data retrieved from searches and improving discoverability.

Option 2: Update Get LookML Model Explore for Model-Agnostic Searches

• Endpoint: explorer/4.0/methods/LookmlModel/lookml_model_explore
• Enhancement: Allow searches without specifying lookml_model_name and explore_name, enabling comprehensive searches across all models.
  
  

What are you trying to achieve?
Simplify the process of finding dimensions and measures directly through the search UI, ensuring that users can access this information with out knowing specific details beforehand.

Improve the data directory's functionality by eliminating the requirement for users to know the lookml_model_name and explore_name before conducting a search. This change makes the feature so helpful and make the platform more user-friendly.

What is your current work around? (optional)
option 1. download all the data by looping over the models & explore option 2. build a chat bot using lookerml as the datasource
