Street Safety

Idea Proposal: Street Safety (for Google Maps)

🔹Submitted by: Samiul Alam Saikat

🔹Date: 14 June, 2025

🔹Purpose: To enhance road safety by minimizing mobile distractions during pedestrian movement.

---

🧠 Idea Name: Street Safety
---

🛡️ Objective:

Reduce road accidents and enhance personal safety by limiting distracting mobile interactions (like notifications and calls) while users are on the move.

---

📍Target Platform:

Google Maps (integration with Android OS features also suggested)

---
🧩 How It Works:

1. Movement Detection:
When the user is walking or moving (on foot), the system detects continuous motion using GPS and motion sensors.

2. Notification Suppression:
During this movement, all non-emergency notifications are automatically paused or muted until the user stops moving.

3. Call Restriction Mechanism:
If a phone call comes while the user is moving:

The "Answer" button is disabled.

The screen shows: "Please stop walking to answer the call for your safety."

As soon as the user stops moving (for a few seconds), the call can be answered.

4. Reactivation of Notifications:
Once the user stands still for a few seconds, paused notifications are delivered normally.
---
🌟Why It’s Beneficial:

Reduces pedestrian accidents caused by mobile distraction.

Encourages mindful phone usage.

Adds a proactive safety feature to Google Maps beyond navigation.

Can be expanded to driving mode or even cycling mode in future versions.
---

🤝Request to Google:

If Google develops this feature (or any variation of it based on this idea), I respectfully request:

🔹Proper credit for the original idea.

🔹Consideration as a partner or collaborator in the development or beta-testing process.
---

📌Optional Enhancements (Future Versions):

Emergency Bypass Mode (for urgent calls/messages).

Parental Control version for children's safety.

Gamified "Safety Score" based on distraction-free walking/driving.
