if you could provide more details (ie where the requests are coming from), which type of zone you are using (private/public?), what the CNAME is pointing to (also private/also public?), it could help to ensure sure we provide the most accurate answer.

In the meantime, I am going to assume the most common problem with CNAME chasing in GCP: private->public and public->private. Please take a look at this link and see if it helps.

TLRD; private -> public and public -> private cname chasing is not supported at the moment.
