Can someone confirm if Google Backup & DR doesn't charge their customer for the compute engine instance serving as the backup appliance? During my testing, I noticed that the compute engine instance for the said appliance uses machine type e2-standard-16 which translates to 16core, 64GB RAM, and 200GB Standard Disk configuration. Hi,
The Backup Appliance VM which resides in Customer Project will considered as a standard Compute engine VM and Customer will be charged as per the monthly billing rate of e2-standard-16. The amount of Data being protected by GCBDR service will be charged separately, however there is no charge for Management Console VM which reside on Google's Project.
I have experience in Design and Implementation of GCBDR Service for customers and I have clarified this to customers.
Hi,
The backup appliance will be chargeable as per the compute engine pricing. Today we provide another appliance type option to customers wanting to protect only compute engine VMs which uses e2-standard-4 machine type. See this for more information on the supported appliance types.
