Migration center requirements

Dear All, In my company they have planned to have one of the clients to move to GCP. For that i was asked to give a demo on the GCP Migration center (Discovery, Assessment, Planning, migration) integrated tool. Can anyone help me or redirect me on the required Pre-requisites to configure install the necessary setup in GCP and also in the onprem for collecting the data with a use case will be more grateful. Ex: showing the procedure, snip, reference discovery data.

Hi leninduraij,

Welcome to Google Cloud Community!

Here are the GCP Prerequisites:

  1. Google Cloud Account: To start using Google Cloud Migration Center, you need to create an Organization
  2. Google Cloud Project: After you created an Organization, you need to create a Project.
  3. Necessary IAM Role and Permissions: The following sample permissions are required to manage/view Migration Center resources:

  • Migration Center Admin Beta (roles/migrationcenter.admin)
Full access to the Migration Center all resources.
  • Migration Center Discovery Client Beta (roles/migrationcenter.discoveryClient)
    Migration Center Discover Client role
  • Migration Center Admin (migrationcenter.admin)
  1. Enable necessary APIs:
  • Migration Center API
  • Compute Engine APi
  • Service API

For the On-Premises Prerequisites for data Collection:

  • The Primary integrated method is the Migration Center Discovery Client.

Migration Center lets you collect data from your infrastructure in different ways to give you the flexibility to balance speed and depth of discovery. Migration Center supports three approaches:
    • Automated one-time collection - Automated one-time collection lets you get a snapshot of your infrastructure at a given time. You can use this to quickly collect performance data from your physical or virtual machine (VM) instances. You can also collect historical performance and networking information, if this is available at the hypervisor level.
    • Automated continuous collection - Automated continuous collection lets you get the full information about your infrastructure over a period of time with scheduled collection capabilities.
    • Manual data import - Manual data import lets you fully control which data to upload to the Migration Center.
  • Migration Center offers data collection tools.

Regarding use cases, you may refer to the Cloud Architecture Center documentation. The Architecture Center provides content resources across a wide variety of migration subjects and scenarios to help you migrate workloads, data, and processes to Google Cloud.
