Unable to Increase Compute Engine API CPUs Quota Above 8 in My Personal GCP Project

Hello Community,

I am reaching out for assistance with an issue I am encountering in my personal GCP project related to Quotas & System Limits for the Compute Engine API, specifically regarding the CPUs resource quota.

I am trying to increase my CPUs quota above 8, but for some reason, I am unable to do so. It appears I might be missing some permissions or there's a restriction in place, but I am not sure what it could be. I have noticed that other users have been able to increase their quotas beyond 8, which leaves me puzzled as to why I am restricted to a maximum of 8 CPUs only.

Furthermore, I am also unable to submit a request to increase this resource limit. It seems like the option to request more resources is not available to me.

Could anyone provide guidance on how I can resolve this issue? Are there specific steps I need to follow or permissions I require to increase my CPUs quota beyond 8?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hi @ferq,

Welcome to the Google Cloud Community!

The possibility of obtaining a higher quota for Compute Engine API queries is influenced by various factors:

  • Usage History: Google evaluates your historical usage and how effectively you've managed resources. A track record of consistent and prudent use can support your request for a quota increase.
  • Business Necessity: Clearly articulating why you need an increased quota can help Google assess your situation and the impact of granting additional access.
  • Type of Google Cloud Project: Free Trial accounts typically have lower default quotas compared to standard or paid accounts. Transitioning to a paid account could result in a higher base quota.
  • Business Necessity: Clearly articulating why you need an increased quota can help Google assess your situation and the impact of granting additional access.
  • Security Considerations: Google places a high emphasis on platform security. Projects with poor security practices or unusual activity might face challenges in getting quota increases.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you.

@lawrencenelson Hey there! Thanks for the welcome 😊.

I'm grateful for the warm welcome to the Google Cloud Community and am excited to be part of this group.

I'm using my account for learning purposes and can't afford additional expenses beyond service fees. Therefore, it's challenging to meet business necessity criteria or change my Google Cloud project type. My project setup is simple, running only a GKE cluster, so security concerns should not be an issue.

Given these conditions, my only option seems to be requesting a quota increase based on my usage history.

I've noticed other individual account users managing to increase their quotas to 24 or 32, despite similar usage patterns to mine, which is puzzling. Could the quota allocations vary based on the intended use stated when creating an account?
