sorry if this is a really silly question, but are perimeters exclusive, or can a perimeter be nested within another perimeter?

If I understand your question correctly, you should review the sharing across perimeters with bridges, especially the services perimeter bridges.

Projects in various service perimeters can communicate within one another using a perimeter bridge. Perimeter bridges are bidirectional, enabling equal access for projects from each service perimeter inside the bridge's boundaries.
