[Bug] Looker Studio not saving changes of the linchart

Description of the Problem:
There is a critical issue in Looker Studio where changes to chart settings are not retained. Specifically, when I enable the "cumulated" option in a line chart, this setting is immediately lost if any other property of the chart is changed or the report is newly opened. This behavior occurs consistently and is not limited to the "cumulated" option—other settings are also affected. As you can see, cumulated is still active in the settings, but the chart is not cumulated anymore.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a report in Looker Studio.

  2. Add or edit a line chart.

  3. Enable the "cumulated" option.

  4. Enable Gradient (or most other properties).

  5. Observe that the linechart is not "cumulated" anymore. The cumulated option is still enabled as in the picture, but after reopening the properties or report, it's gone.

Scope & Frequency:

  • The issue occurs with different data sources, on multiple machines, and across various browsers.

  • It is not limited to a single report.

  • The problem happens every time these steps are followed.

Expected Behavior:
After enabling "cumulated" or adjusting any chart property, all settings should be retained unless explicitly changed by the user.

Actual Behavior:
The "cumulated" setting (and others) resets as soon as another property is modified, making it impossible to save desired chart configurations.

Impact:
This bug prevents me from creating and saving cumulative line charts or other customized visualizations, significantly limiting the functionality of Looker Studio for time series and trend analysis.

Additional Notes:

  • The issue persists after refreshing data, reconnecting data sources, and across different environments.
  • No workaround has been found
  • Older chart still work, and it worked in the past.

I am having the same problem!

i am having this issue as well

I have this issue as well

Same here. It's currently impossible to work with because formatting changes are randomly discarded.

I am having the same issue with Style changes to my Line Charts not saving. When I try to show Data Labels on my Line Charts, the changes won't save when I refresh. Similarly, when there is only 1 series on the Line Chart, it displays the line with a gradient (shadow underneath), despite the fact that the Gradient style setting on the series is toggled off. When I try to toggle the Gradient setting on/ off, it will resolve and remove the shadow, however again, when I refresh it reverts back to showing the gradient shadow (despite the toggle remaining off). Oddly this is not an issue on the Line Charts that have more than 1 series, it is only when there is 1 series on the chart that this happens.

Also, I am having similar issues with Style changes saving to my Pivot Tables. When I try to change the metric Decimal Precision from auto to 2, the changes will not save when I refresh.

I have tried everything to troubleshoot this (clearing cache, different browser, recreating the charts on a new report connected to a new data source), with no luck.

What can be done? I urgently need to fix this so I can publish my report.

as the original post mentions: the Older charts still work. The current workaround I've been doing is finding a Line Chart I used in a report I made last month, copying the chart and pasting in my current report, and then changing the data source connected to it to fit my current report.

When I do this, I am able to make style changes to the Line Chart, (such as adding the data labels, and adjusting gradient and line style) and they save! Unfortunately Decimal Precision changes still are not saving (it reverts to auto upon refresh).

Acknowledged. Thanks everyone for weighing in - it really helps to properly assess impact on our end.

Our engineering team is taking a look at this now. I'll keep you posted.

I can't wait to see this fixed.

I have the same problem. I can't edit or modify the graphics

Looks to me like this bug has been fixed (just tested with line charts). 🙂

I can confirm that the bug has been fixed, and new line charts work as intended. However, older charts that had this issue will still experience the problem. I could resolve this by copying and pasting them, they then function correctly. Thanks for anyone here confirming the issue.

I'm still having this issue. Data labels are not persisting in the chart after publishing the report. Also, if I enable data labels and enable show data points right after, the chart loses the data labels but the toggle still shows as enabled. Really frustrating.
