How to count the number of registers in a table before downloading it

Hi everyone,

Is there any way to inform users how many registers there are in a table before downloding it?
Let's say I have a dahsboard with 4 filters and a table with 4 dimensions and 4measures. I'd like to know if there is a way to inform, in a KPI maybe, how many registers are in the table so users can adjust the date range to reduce the amount of registers to download

Thanks!

What is a "register" in this case? It sounds like something you might be able to count and show in a visualization, but I'm not sure what you mean.

It sounds like a tracking issue rather than a report-making problem. Have you tried using Google Tag Manager to create a specific event and import it into Looker Studio?

By number of registers i mean the number of rows that there will be in the table once it is exported by the user. According to Looker support, it can't be done dynamically.

Ah, yes, that's accurate. You could use table calculations to compute how many rows are displaying in the visualization, but that number will never go about 5000. If you wanted to show users that the download would include, say, 100k rows, I don't think that's possible. Cool feature request though!

If this is for LOOKER STUDIO, and not LOOKER, the Record Count metric is available for most connector types.

Thanks @Rick_E for the info though, we are currently using Looker but ill keep that in mind. As u said @sam8 it would be an interesting future, It's difficult to warn some business users about not downloading big data sets if they don't know in advance how many records there are.

Thanks!

Agreed - we have struggled with this as well. There is a lot of confusion when people see 500 rows and can only see all of the data if they download it into excel.
