TLDR: We are happy to announce release of Custom Binning feature for Looker Studio.

What is the Custom Binning?

Custom Binning empowers analysts to segment their continuous numerical data into buckets, enabling identification of patterns based on ranges. Analysts can define equally sized buckets by specifying a bucket size with a min/max range, or define custom-sized buckets by setting their own bin breakpoints.

Custom Binning is available at both the chart and data source levels, allowing editors to create reusable bucketed fields. This feature complements our Custom Grouping feature, which was released in Q4 2023. 

Why is it important?

The Custom Binning feature, with its easy to use UI eliminates the need to manually code complex CASE statements to create calculated fields to categorize their data into bins. Custom Binning feature also delivers a fundamental prerequisite for Histogram visualizations, a consistent feature request from Studio customers.
