Looker Studio CSV file upload data format error

So I uploaded a CSV file to Looker Studio, and noticed that a bunch of the columns that are actually numbers in the original file are showing up as text dimensions instead of numeric fields, or in reverse.

Like even something simple like 12345 or 78.9 — it’s showing as text, so I can’t do stuff like sum or average those fields.

The CSV itself is super clean — no quotes, no commas, just plain numbers.
But Looker Studio still reads them as text. Do you know why that might be happening?

And is there any way to force Looker to treat those columns as numbers when I upload the file? Or anything I should be doing to format the CSV better?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,

To format numbers correctly in Looker Studio, start by switching to edit mode and clicking on Resources at the top. From the drop-down menu, select "Manage added data sources." This will take you to the data source view, where you can see all the data sources connected to your report. Locate the one that contains the numbers you want to change from text to number format. Under the "Actions" column, click "Edit" to open the list of all available dimensions and metrics. To adjust the format, go to the Type column, click the drop-down menu next to the relevant dimension, and select the appropriate number format such as Number, Percent, or Currency. This will ensure your data is displayed correctly in your report.
