Hi,
I’ve built a dashboard using Google Looker Studio, and I'm now looking to implement a structured environment setup — specifically separating development and production (live) environments.
Additionally, I’d like to establish a backup and version control strategy for the dashboard (e.g., via Git, GCS, file exports, etc.) to support actions such as restoring previous versions, rolling back changes, and migrating updates from dev to live.
After several hours of research, it appears that this kind of workflow isn’t natively supported in Looker Studio. I’d appreciate any guidance, best practices, or workarounds from the community or Google Cloud staff. We’re open to enterprise-level solutions if available.
Thank you!
Hi @maihuy-data ! You're right — Looker Studio doesn’t support Git or dev/prod environments natively.
workaround:
Duplicate reports for dev/prod, update manually.
Export JSON or use the Looker Studio API to back up reports and store in Git or GCS.
For true version control and CI/CD, consider Looker (the full platform) — it supports Git and deployment workflows.
Can you tell me how to export JSON from looker studio. I don't find that option 🙄
