Method to get parameter values from an existing dimension in Looker Studio

In Looker Studio, I'm looking to use parameters to dynamically control charts. I'd like to link the parameter's allowed values to an existing dimension, enabling selection directly from the dimension's values. How can I set this up? I managed to create free-text parameters but haven't been able to link them to a dimension.

In Looker Studio, parameters don’t automatically pull allowed values from an existing dimension — you need to manually define the allowed values when setting up the parameter.

Here’s a workaround:

• Create a parameter with manually listed allowed values.

• Create a control (like a dropdown) linked to the parameter.

• Use a calculated field or CASE statement to apply the parameter value inside your charts.

Unfortunately, dynamic binding of parameter values to a live dimension isn’t supported yet.
