New User summary/aggregation

Hi all,

I have another question around summary/aggregation which I can't quite get my head around.

In the following table you can see the number of total users and new users over a period of 13 months:

I understand the table summary for total users will not equal the sum of each individual month as users may visit in several months and thus will only be counted once in the summary.

However this is not the case for new users: the number of new users does equal the sum of new users each month as a user can only be 'new' once.

So the question is: if new users are a subset of total users how can there be more new users over any date range, even if subsequent visits are not counted towards the summary of total users the first visit should be and thus the minimum total users must be equal to or greater than the number of new users?

It must be related to aggregation/summation as there are fewer new users within each month, but the summary suggests there have been more over the total period (13 months).

Feel like I'm missing something very obvious, but would be most grateful if anyone could give a clear description of what is happening here.

Many thanks.

actually, I have found that I have the same issue, and also other users posted for similar problem, so it seems like a bug

Interesting, thanks for the info.

I know @Mehdi_Oudjida is particularly knowledgeable on how summary/aggregation works, I wonder if he might know whether this is a bug?
