One Control Filters Another Without Intersecting the Underlying Data... Possible?

Hello,

Please see the diagram below,

What I have done is made up some fake class names in a high school, with some fake students in the classes, and some fake assessment data. The yellow dots come from a mostly whited out bar chart and are the grades of "Haruka" in a series of tests. The box plots are all the class grades in each of those assessments. (So it's 2 graphs with one on top of the other where we see where Haruka is in the distribution.)

The problem I have is that to get this result, I have to group the nickname control with the bar chart (and select Haruka in it) and group the class_name control with the box plot (and find Haruka's classes in that dropdown manually), but that's not very user-friendly.

If I don't group anything and choose Haruka on the dropdown, the class_name filters down to her classes only, but the box plots just become single lines representing her grades. Please could anybody suggest a way that I can get the result I want only by typing in Haruka somewhere? I have heard about cascading filters, but that doesn't seem to be an option in Looker Studio.

Thank you for your help!
