Severe problem uploading photos to Looker Studio

Good morning, I am writing to you because of a problem that has been occurring for the last week that is preventing me and my colleagues from working.

We are dedicated to create reports in Looker Studio for customers and we have seen that the last week has arisen a pretty serious error. It won't let us upload photos of any kind to a report. We have tried rebooting the computer, changing the dashboard, a different operating system, but nothing. It is not possible. The problem occurs when you select the image option and click on “Image File”, nothing happens.

We have checked and it shows an error in the console. Please, I would like to know if you could fix it as soon as possible because it is preventing us from being able to deliver reports to customers. Thank you very much, Best regards.

We are having the same issue.

Hi @kodalogic, thanks for your post!

I'm having some difficulty reproducing the behavior that you describe - it seems to be working on my end. Can you try dragging and dropping an image from your browser or hard drive onto the report to see if that method works?

If that does not work, you can file a bug with our team with the details to help us understand and find out what might be going on. The instructions for filing a bug report are here: https://support.google.com/looker-studio/answer/13606940

@Lobo-Google

This is still an issue, and given there are a couple of ways to add an image to the report, here are the steps that are currently broken:
On the top menu, click insert, scroll down, and select image towards the bottom.  This will generate a blank asset on the report, and the image properties sidebar will open.  If you click the Select a file button, it never opens a file explorer to select a local file to upload.

Looking at the browser console, it seems like there is a bug in the GDS code base with a null reference for a startsWith function (screenshot attached)

For replication purposes, I'm on a Windows 11 Machine, with Chrome build: 132.0.6834.111 -- however this has been an issue for months and will not be tied to a Chrome build.  Additionally, all extensions on my machine were turned off for testing.

For everyone else, here are the working methods to add an image in case you are stuck:
1) Just drag an image from your computer onto the report
2) On the top toolbar (e.g., one with undo redo, add page, add data, etc.), there is an icon to insert an image, which in my testing works.

I am having the same problem. When I try to Insert -> Image, the "Select File" button under Image Properties does nothing.

Hey,

Are there any solutions for this - I can't add an image either via Insert -> Image, the "Select File" button or by dropping it on the report from my hard drive.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. I'm French and I work in Paris, so I assume it's a worldwide technical problem.

When can we expect a solution to this issue?

Thks

It looks like they have made a change to the system. If you look up at the
top toolbar, there is an icon that looks like a photo. You can click on
that to add an image.

Thanks! This really works.

It looks like you can go to the top of the toolbar and click on the icon that looks like a picture to add images. Maybe they are changing how that feature functions - or at least where you need to go to get it to work.

Thank you, worked for me, even though it is almost causing my browser to crash 🙂

Worked well for me. Thanks !

Same issues- frustrating.

This is a very frustrating experience. But it worked only after I dragged the image from my files to the report.

I am having the same issue. Tried the solution others have shared but it did not work for me

@vascommv one weird workaround I did use in the past is if you have another, pre-existing data studio report with an image, you can copy (cmd + c or ctrl + c), and paste that image into your new report. That allowed me to update the copied image on my new report, a local file from my computer.

I've passed this on to the developers. For now I suggest using the toolbar button to add images. Sorry for any inconvenience!
