The Data Preview on Studio Data sources is GA!

This feature aims to improve the analysts experience by allowing them to understand the source data before attempting to create reports. This feature is currently available only on Excel, Looker, BigQuery, CSV and Sheets based data sources. Additional data sources will be added incrementally.

What is included in this feature?

The "Data Preview" tab is accessible on the Datasource → Fields page, and allows analysts to select dimensions and measures to preview sample data. To display underlying source data, analysts must first select dimensions and measures, and click "Refresh Data". By hovering over the field selector or data table header, users also can see additional details about the fields, thier data type, aggregation types, and descriptions.

The feature also supports ‘Filter By Email’ functionality. When ‘Filter by Email’ toggle has been enabled on a data source, users will only see the data filtered by their email addresses thus enforcing data security. Users will also see the familiar consent dialog box informing them of the data restriction. 

Additional Notes

• The “Data Preview” feature is limited to Excel, Looker, BigQuery, CSV, and Sheets. Additional data sources will be added incrementally.
• Keeping the performance and query costs in mind, Preview is currently limited to the first 1000 rows without any sorting capability.
• Based on the data connector, Studio enforces limitations on the number of dimensions and measures that can be queried. Data previews are subject to these same constraints as well. These constraints are detailed in the footer section of the preview tab for user reference
