Issue with Google Meet: People in same organization cannot record

In the Google Meet official support page (LINK) it is mentioned that the following people can record a Google Meet call:

  • if you’re the meeting organizer
  • if you’re in the same organization as the organizer

However we are experiencing the issue that call participants from same organization as the call "organzer" are not able to record... the option just doesn't show up:

We made sure that:

  • Recording is turned ON in the Google Admin console
  • We’re using Meet on a computer
  • We're not  joining only to present
  • A person, and not a device, starts any ad-hoc meetings

which are the main reasons listed in the official Google Meet recording troubleshooting page...

Has anybody experienced the same issue....?

Hi everyone,

After some investigation (thanks @BoI_Admin for letting met test on your environment) it was related to the release mentioned by @KAM where Google added the ability to configure co-hosts through Google Calendar.

The new feature combined with Host Management being turned on by default on your environment causes the issue, only hosts and co-hosts (if configured on the meeting) will be allowed to start a recording once the feature is rolled out to your environment.

Turning off the default Host Management setting through Google Meet -> Meet Safety Settings, resolves the issue for all meetings created after this change.

For all meetings created before the Host management will still be turned and recording will only be allowed for the organiser. Turning it off through the Video call settings in the Calendar invite resolves the issue for that particular meeting.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Maarten

I just created a small Google Meet and everyone was able to record it. I checked the admin console and everything is on and working.
