Auto expiry shared folder on Drive for outsiders

Since there is no auto-expiry option while sharing a folder with people outside the organisation, what workarounds do we have? This is a security huge issue.

I checked a Chrome extension, but that does not have good reviews. There could be Google API but I am not a programmer. However, I can give it a shot at tweaking an existing API template.

P.S.> I made or liked a Feature Request for this a few years ago.

You can do this with the free, open source, command-line, indispensable GAM tool. Check out:

for more details.

Specifically, see https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-XTD3/wiki/Shared-Drives#manage-shared-drive-access

Hope that helps,

Ian

I have used GAM to manage Drive access. However, I could not find a command to give the option for end users to set the expiry date on their shared files.

As a workaround, I can set a sharing limit of 3 months, and the end users can reshare it if necessary.
Do you know if this is possible with GAM?

Hi,  Here are some workarounds:

  1. Regularly review and revoke access manually.
  2. Use Google Drive’s sharing settings to manage access and set notifications.
  3. Try other tools like "Drive Permissions Auditor."
  4. Use Google Drive API to automate permission changes. Check out Google’s API documentation for guidance.
