Configuration for Return-Path always being the same address as the Sent From?

Hi,

I am testing Google Workspace right now and consider switching to it from Fastmail with all my domains. Right now I set up one domain for emailing in Workspace and the basic things work as expected and also sending and receiving emails by using aliases work fine on the first sight.

However in Fastmail I use many aliases for different websites I have accounts at, the idea is on the one hand that this way I can filter emails easier but also to communicate a unique address to all those different places. Basically it works like this:

  • main_address@mydomain.com (used only with friends and close colleagues)
  • my_bank@mydomain.com
  • onlineshop1@mydomain.com
  • onlineshop2@mydomain.com

And so on, I have by now quite a few aliases at Fastmail and it was useful actually by now a few times when I suddenly got junk-mails sent to one address or unsubscribing from a newsletter didnโ€˜t work and in those cases I could just delete the alias and the problem was solved ๐Ÿ‘

In Fastmail when I send an email using an alias like onlineshop1@mydomain.com the main address never gets communicated to the outside world, also not in the headers, the Return-Path is in this case also  onlineshop1@mydomain.com . In Google Workspace I noticed by checking the headers that always when I use an alias address on the first sight it seems to work like in Fastmail and on the receiving end you see the alias as the email address the mail was sent from and if you send a reply it is being send there.

However in the email headers my main address is always in there as the Return-Path address, which is kind of hidden and not visible to the average user but this doesnโ€˜t change the fact that the main address I want to protect by using aliases is also being sent every time I send an email from an alias and can easily be found if you know where to look.

So my question, is there a way to configure emailing in Workspace to make sure the Return-Path is always identical to the address an email is sent from also if you use an alias?

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜€
