Customizing apps shown on left panel within Workspace?

Is there any way (either as an admin for the organization, or for individual users) to customize the apps shown on the left side panel within Workspace? For example, I would like to add Calendar and Contacts to the shortcuts on the left panel within Gmail, and remove the shortcut to Spaces which we rarely use.

There is now some capability to alter the app sidebar in Gmail Quick Settings.
