Email sent to an erroneous address, and it does not appear in:anywhere.

As the title suggests, I sent an email to an erroneous address, and now that I want to send it to the correct address, it does not appear in my sent messages, or in:anywhere.

Moreover, I notice the kickback message does does not appear in the gmail.com web client, nor do about a four hours of messages on either side.  That's odd, because the kickback came at least a few hours after the missing sent message.

So, it seems messages are also disappearing from my inbox, on the server side, despite the fact that I never use the web client.

The kickback message does appear in my outlook 365 desktop client, and it indicates there is an attachment (which I'd hope would have the missing sent message), but if I open the message in a new window, there no longer appears to be an attachment.

I checked another device, which also has the outook 365 client installed, and the situation is the same.  However, on both devices the emails that come and go from the outlook 365 accounts on the outlook 365 client do not disappear, as per how email generally works.

Is there a way to audit what happened with these emails?

@FuriousGeorge Do you have vault and can check there?  Do you have any filters that might be removing the email?

Are you sure the email went out and wasn't blocked at the SMTP level from Outlook to Google?

Hi.

Unfortunately, I do not have vault enabled.

I'm sure the email went out, because I can see the kickback message in my O365 desktop client (not mobile), but the attachment cannot be opened (presumably this would have the contents of the email).

Interestingly, in the course of looking for this email, I found that not only is the kickback with the attachment missing from gmail.com, but so are a few more emails received before and after that one, in about a 4 hour window.

I have not kept looking for missing emails, but I know at least those messages are missing from the inbox, and at least the message in question is missing from my sent box.  I suspect if I keep looking I'll find more missing messages.

I considered that my toddler may have gotten a hold of my phone, and somehow deleted messages, and this is just an unfortunate coincidence.  However, it's odd that messages are missing from my inbox and outbox.

Is there anything else I can try?  I can always just spend a few hours recreating the missing lost message.

@FuriousGeorge Have you looked at Email Log Search https://support.google.com/a/answer/2604578?hl=en&fl=1

The message does not appear at all using this feature, although it was within the last 30 days.

Again, since I do have the kickback message, I know it was sent, albeit to the wrong address.

Also, I was looking for some sent mail wherein I modified an insurance policy.  I've sent at least 4 of these messages, going back to march, and I was only able to locate one.  The log feature will not help, as it only goes back 30 days unless I have a message id, apparently.

It really seems like email is disappearing from my account.  I changed my password recently, and it is complex, and I'm not getting notifications of anyone logging in from a new device or address.  My toddler cannot unlock my phone, so I'm at a loss.
