I used G Suite legacy free edition for a decade and was very pleased with it. Now Google is forcing me to move to a paid membership of Workspace. Since I use this ONLY for family purposes the amount to pay per user (we have only 6, and 1 group mail), is tremendous and way too much.
I would really be happy, among of a lot of other users that there will be another FREE Workspace made available.
Would this even be possible?
Many thanks in advance for considering this option.

I have the exact same scenario Pat. It's unfortunate that they are shutting this down but the bigger issue that I have is that there is no easy way to convert all the Google Workspace data into gmail. Here is a small list of the issues I've found so far:
Gmail - full import via POP creates massive SPAM issues and now 90%+ of my emails go to spam
Google photos - can't retain albums/person identification information by export/import in addition now all photos use storage space where prior to June 2021 photos were free
Google maps - can't import saved places/lists
google drive - can't bring across sharing information, no easy way to transfer data to new account
Youtube - no way to transfer to new account
And for all of this there is little to no support at all.
I'm sure there is so much more.... This is SO extremely frustrating.
Same, this is frustrating, is not possible to not offer a way to transfer the data to new accounts when you are closing a service ...
