Gemini for workspace context window is extremely small

I uploaded a few files and it told me that the prompt was above the context limit. On my personal account this does not happen, even for the free tier. It was never stated that I would get a *much smaller* context window version of Google Gemini. I'm confused why this important feature, despite being advertised directly in Gemini Advanced, is not in the workspace subscription.

Please fix the context window issue - it is *extremely* important for my work that the model has the full 1 million context window. Otherwise it hallucinates so much that it's unusable.

For what it’s worth, you’re not alone in this—I have seen the same issue, as have colleagues of mine at other institutions. 

This has been going for at couple of weeks, but disappointingly there’s no mention of it at https://www.google.com/appsstatus/dashboard/

If you haven’t already, you might want to open a ticket with support.

Anyone else seeing similar issues? It’s definitely interfering with my work…..

I couldn't agree more. This is super important. Once the context window message is triggered, the Gemini answers are unusable.

If you are within the context window, Gemini 2.5 Pro is incredibly good!

Based on my testing, our current context window in Gemini Advanced is only approx. 13,900 tokens. 😥

If you haven't already, open a ticket about this with Google Support (see https://support.google.com/a/answer/1047213?hl=en for how). The more customers they hear from, the higher priority a fix will become.

Or, of course, Google has plenty of competitors in the GenAI chatbot space, so switching to a competitor might be worth considering. I like Perplexity a bunch, personally.

Yes, this is a huge issue. We have migrated our whole team over to Workspace from Claude Teams, on the promise of 1m context (the same as it is for personal users), but no, it's 32k, which is atrocious and completely unusable for most work.

Will be swapping back at the end of this month if not resolved.

Below was their last message to me on 14 April:

"Hello Daniel,

We understand that you're facing an issue with Gemini advanced, where the context length does not match free/personal version of Gemini advanced.
I want to assure you that our team is actively working on resolving this issue. Currently, the case is under investigation, However it may require some more time to ensure it is done correctly.Please be advised that I will promptly provide you with an update as soon as I receive information from the team.

aistudio.google.com lets you get a million tokens with gemini 2.5 pro preview 3-25 with workspace accounts

But AI Studio cannot be used for confidential data - big difference for work usage. 
Gemini team, please fix this ASAP! I’m pretty confused about the disparity between Workspace and personal users, especially since workspace is supposed to be for heavier work; and it’s advertised with “Gemini Advanced” which has 1M context.

Agreed. While aistudio.google.com is a great tool, it may not offer data protection outside the EEA.

It looks like, in the last few days, Google has made significant improvements to the context window for Workspace accounts. It looks like the limit is higher but we are not quite at 1 mil tokens yet.
