Gmail - Contact labels/groups

Hello,

I have confirmed with Google support that contact groups created and used in gmail, cannot be used in the gmail app. Can someone please come up with a solution for this ? Businesses should be able to organize and communicate with their contacts in the gmail app the same as they can in a browser. Please help !

"Thank you very much for waiting. My apologies for the delay. I talked to our Email and Synchronization team and they confirmed this is expected. This option only works on the web interface and unfortunately we don't have an available workaround to do that on a mobile device as well ; however, we'd love to get your feedback in order to improve our products moving forward. Hi @abyrd :

It sounds like Google Groups might be a good solution/alternative for this, maybe? (Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™m fully understanding.)

If not, you might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here (https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group) so that it can be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Cheers,

Ian

I would suggest to use Groups as well. Would that work for you?

Well that sucks. We were just going to move from groups to labels because groups are all public in the mailing list. We were having a problem of staff members all creating groups with similar naming conventions. This caused confusion because all the groups created show up in the autocomplete. When they tried to email an admin created group with a user list managed by admins they were met with five different groups with a similar name. It looked like labels would solve this issue but now it seems it'll just cause another issue.

Sadly hiding groups only hides it within groups.google.com. Even groups
that are completely hidden show up in the autocomplete when drafting
emails. We have the setting that defaults all newly created groups to
hidden and no dice.

@abyrd

It looks like you can still email your label groups from the phone. You need to do it from the google contacts app though. If you open that up and click the hamburger icon at the top left, you should see your labels. Choose a label, then click the 3 dots at the top right and choose send email.

YES! I have 24 people that I need to email fairly regularly. TBH eyre saved under the label FTO. When I am on my computer I can just type FTO into the TO field and it sends it to all 24 people. On my phone app, typing in FTO in the TO field produces no results at all. This is highly disappointing and needs to be fixed.
