Go to parent folder from search ?

Hi folks. Is there a way to go to parent folder of searched file ? It would be good to have a "3 dot" menu on every item found by search to perform various item operations.

One of them should be "Open containing folder on PC" or similar.

For example, when I'm searching for some excel file, it is not very good only option to click on the file and left them open in google web-view or whatever it is...

I would like to have option to open it in installed application or open his parent folder on computer where I can do multiple tasks with that file/item.

And not search from google drive root deep into structure and lost myself somewhere there...

Look for example at Dropbox how they manage them - easy and clean what to do options...

@ruhsoftware there are three ways you can get to the parent folder from search results:

  1. Right-click the file and choose Show file location
  2. Left-click the file and use the three-dot menu and choose Show file location
  3. Left-click the file and click the parent folder in the breadcrumb trail/folder hierarchy in the footer

Here's a screenshot showing all of those options, but you may want to check the Google Drive training and help for more instructions on how to use Drive.

Well, Stephen, this is not that solution, what I would like to use. It assumes, You use web version of Google Drive (web GUI) - but when You go from Windows tray icon - it goes this way - and this SHOULD be improved...

The 3-dots on second picture is quite good idea to have for this case... not ?

@ruhsoftware ahh, right, you never mentioned you were talking about the Windows experience: yes there's lots of room for improvement there but I've just checked my install of Google Drive for Desktop and I'm offered a link to the parent:

Using the link takes me to the correct place on my local Windows machine:

I'm on version 56.0.7.0 so if you're on an earlier version the update may be rolling out.
