How to add a font (dch basisschrift) to google-docs at school-domain?

Dear supporters and users of g-suite and g-drive

I like to add a font to our domains

Did someone do something similar?

Hi bernd_faulstich,

You can use the Extensis Fonts extension to have a lot more fonts (which may have something you're looking for), but unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to add custom fonts to Google Workspace. Here's the marketplace extension: https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/extensis_fonts/568288816452

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Thanks for your reply. I don't try to find some font. I try to add the
special swiss Primaryschool-font "dch basisschrift" from
https://www.basisschrift.ch/ to use the Google docs for all worksheets
without using docs only as docx-storage.

It's not possible to add a third part font in Google Workspace services, natively.

At the most, you can use some fonts in the Marketplace extensions.

To make it easier to promote the request for the ability of adding custom fonts, I suggest we all upvote/like the Feature Idea over here, which is better documented, and also has comments from forum leaders.

Add corporate font to Google Drive Interface

I just had the same request to have this fonts available in workspace. How do you currently cope without it?

Find one of the thousand+ fonts that is similar and move on.

Thank you! Could you suggest one?
Maybe Space Grotesk?

It all depends what they want.

For handwriting and be easy to read I found Patrick Hand to be nice.

Thank you.

@mlehmann-tandemhave you seen https://fonts.google.com?  All free with no restrictions on use.  Embrace them and change your style guide to use one of them.   There is a great feature on the page too where you can pick a font and it tells you one that pairs nicely with it.  For example, I typically pick a sans-serif font for headers and then a serif font for text.

However @kim_nilsson is right: A) choose a font and move on AND B) upvote this feature idea: Add corporate font to Google Drive Interface

-KAM

Thank you Kam. I passed this on to our teachers and updvoted. What I am talking about is in consequece also a corporate fonts. It's just that it's prescribed from Education Authoritites here.

@mlehmann-tandem Agreed and this has been a request for 10+ years I've been administering Google Workspace.  Just about 2 years ago, I was told there were zero plans to support this feature request when asked pointedly.

I don't have specifics but from experience, I am sure there are issues with font quality, font licensing, font inclusion, etc. that Google's approach is to provide over 1000 fonts for free instead.

I upvoted your feature idea but overall I wouldn't hold my breath 🙂 -KAM

@KAMlooks like you are spot on! I have just been informed that this fonts can only be used restricted so I think this exculdes the posibility of just adding it to the 1000 other fonts.

Instead a general possibility to manage custom fonts would also solve this need.

How is it possible to add custom fonts?

Hallo Bernd

Das ist der Punkt, diese Funktion gibt es heute nicht. Es ist ein Feature Request in der Google Plattform für solche Themen;-)

Dir einen schönen Tag
Martin

You might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here. Doing so will allow it to be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you do not already have access, you need to request it first. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ for how to do that.

Once you have access, go to https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group . There, you can upvote and comment on any similar idea, or post a new idea.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Cheers,

Ian

That is not a valid option. The company I am working for has not too long ago made the switch to Google Workspace. Due to our corporate identity font not being available, some of my co-workers constantly switch back and forth between Word and Google Docs. If you have purchased a font license, you should be able to implement it in Google Workspace.

Yes, you should be able to upload custom fonts, I fully agree, and many of our customers have this pain point. However, it is currently not possible. So the only way to push this is a feature request, I'm afraid.

I think it has already been logged into the ideas: https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/Uploading-Font-Types/idi-p/83850

So please upvote!
