I"m wondering if anyone knows how Communities in Currents will function in Spaces. I have several Communities set up as part of my company's intranet which are then embedded into a Google Site (again, our intranet). Hoping that I can still embed Communities into a Google Site once it's moved over to Space. Any info on this would be helpful.
Curious on this as well
Well at the moment there are several Google services, including Chat, that cannot be embedded in another site. I too would appreciate the feature, so perhaps you'd submit it as a feature idea?
Until then you could add a button to a Google Sites intranet, with a link to a specific Chat Space.
Good idea to submit it as a feature idea... thanks for the feedback
@paulslater3 We are using Currents as discussion area and then we embed the feeds into Google sites which we are using as our intranet too. We were just reaching a tipping point with Currents where users were starting to engage with it before this announcement! I would really like to know what the new functionality will look like in Spaces as I need to plan how to communicate the changes to our users. I don't know whether it is possible to become an "early adopter". You are the first person I've found who is using exactly the same model as us so would be interested in connecting with you to learn more.
Hi there! We use currents as well but do not embed it in our intranet (which is not google sites).
I love the idea of being early adopters and curious how others may be envisioning the shift to Spaces. We have a few โcommunitiesโ set up in google spaces but I see limitations when it comes to curating content there, tagging etc.
yes, this would be interesting to see as a feature request !
@webstream Appreciate the link but this is just a general overview of how Google Currents works. I'm trying to understand the future of Currents and specifically what Google plans on doing with Currents Communities once they migrate it over to Spaces. Any additional info on that would be helpful.
thanks again!
Correct, same needs here.
Another thing I am interested in is how (if?!) we will be able to retain the information already existing in Currents, once it has been "sunsetted". Will we lose all those useful posts, or will they remain somewhere in the cloud, for us to access like an archive?
@Mercedes This is a really good point. I would hope the content in Communities would carry over to Spaces.... looking forward to hearing from Google engineers and product managers on all of this.. and soon!
Would be difficult to imagine a full "migration" because they are 2 completely different platforms with different functionalities, so a lot of reimagining will need to be done, but this is only my guess! Google... help! ๐
I would not expect it.
At the moment, you can (each user) can download thier own currents data.
I would imagine that an archiveing tool will be provided, and some sort of migration process (but remember the sites migration :/)
I would plan for a "fresh restart" and hope for a data migration... the tools and usage are different.. so plan for the chage well ahead of schedule...
Change is a constant with Google. Good for innovation, but not so great with knowledge management and knowledge retention. Hoping for more guidance soon
Really appreciate everyone's help here, really helps.
Can someone from Google comment on this? I too am very interested in embedding Spaces in a Google Site.
Thanks... I'm still waiting on this one as well.....
